Before you start

These instructions are for Ubuntu 20.04 and Debian Stable/Buster/10.9

Check if you have Java

  • Enter ‘java -version’ in a terminal window.
  • Any version 11 and above is good, and you can go straight to Installing Brainbuilder

Installing Java 11 or upgrading from an older version

  • Open your favorite command line terminal.

  • Refresh the package indexes:

    sudo apt update

  • Install the package:

    sudo apt install openjdk-11-jdk

  • Check again if you now have Java 11:

    java -version

    This should display something like

    openjdk version "11.0.10" 2021-01-19

Anything that starts with “11” or higher is good.

Installing AVRdude

  • Check if avrdude has been installed correctly:

    avrdude -?

  • That should displays the help for avrdude.
