Installation on Ubuntu and Debian
Before you start
These instructions are for Ubuntu 20.04 and Debian Stable/Buster/10.9
- Enter ‘java -version’ in a terminal window.
- Any version 11 and above is good, and you can go to looking up the device name of your development board
Open your favorite command line terminal.
Refresh the package indexes:
sudo apt update
Install the package:
sudo apt install openjdk-11-jdk
Check again if you now have Java 11:
This should display something like:
openjdk version "11.0.10" 2021-01-19
Anything that starts with “11” or higher is good.
ls -l /dev/tty* * The one to look out for will be named /dev/ttyUSB[number] or /dev/ttyACM[number] * Usually the group it belongs to, is group 'dialout'. Check if you are a member: groups * Add yourself to the 'dialout' group if you are not a member: sudo useradd -g dialout [your user name]
sudo apt install avrdude
Check if avrdude has been installed correctly:

Download the latest version of the BrainBuilder Development Studio from the BrainBuilder Development Studio download page
Unzip the downloaded file to a directory of your choosing
In a terminal window, start run.sh
Depending on your preferences and window manager, create a shortcut or menu entry
